The Obuasi East District Assembly has presented assorted items valued at GH¢59,600 to 57 disabled persons in the district.
The items are expected to empower them to undertake economic ventures to sustain their lives.
Presenting the items, which included deep freezers, industrial sewing machines, refrigerators, carpentry tools and farm inputs, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Madam Faustina Amissah, encouraged the beneficiaries to ensure that they make good use of what they have been provided with to help improve their lifestyles.
“Obuasi East is entirely a new district, and this is the first presentation of items being given to the disabled. I assure you that so long as the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) continues to come, you will also continue to get your share,” she said.
The DCE, however, warned the beneficiaries not to travel to nearby districts to demand similar items.
To those who did not benefit from the package, Madam Faustina Amissah asked them to exercise restraint and assured them that they will get theirs during the next presentation.
The District Coordinating Director, Mr. Emmanuel Ntoso, said a monitoring team would visit the beneficiaries to find out how they have been able to ultilise the various packages given them, and also offer the needed advice and encouragement.
The Secretary to the disabled, Mr. Ernest Awuah, on behalf of the group, thanked the assembly and the government for the packages.
