Allegations against our Regional Minister unfounded -Chief
By Ernest Best Anane
The chiefs of Sefwi/Aowin in the Western North Region of Ghana have vehemently denied allegations purporting that they cannot work with the Regional Minister.
They regarded the allegations as unfounded and asked Ghanaians to treat it with the contempt it deserves.
Nana Marfo Paanin II, Adontehene of the Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Area, who spoke on behalf of the chiefs, stated this at a press conference held yesterday. He pleaded with President Akufo-Addo to maintain him to continue his good works.
It would be recalled that some irate youth of Sefwi in the Western North Region, on June 19, called on President Akufo-Addo to, as a matter of urgency, sack the Regional Minister, Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu, for ‘attacking’ the Paramount Chief of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council, Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama II.
It followed a petition written by the Regional Minister to the Local Government Minister to sack his Deputy, Alex Tetteh, for disrespecting his authority.
In the petition, the Regional Minister accused the President of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council of supporting the Deputy Minister to change the site for the construction of a Regional Coordinating Council Office.
In a four-page letter to the Local Government Minister, Hajia Alima Mahama, dated 11 June 2019, the Minister enumerated several reasons why his Deputy Minister must be questioned.
Some of the reasons he outlined included the Deputy Regional Minister convening a Regional Security Council meeting without his knowledge, issuing security orders to counter his own orders, and conniving with a chief to change the site for a Regional Coordinating Council office.
But, Nana Marfo Panin II indicated that the allegations were devised by some unscrupulous people for reasons best known to them, and added that the chiefs and overlords of the area condemn such acts.
He disclosed that when the issue was brought to the attention of Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, Paramount Chief of Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Area and President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, he immediately sent a delegation from Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Area to render an unqualified apology to the Chief, as custom demands.
He emphatically stated that the Minister also made every possible effort to apologise to all fractions cited in the allegations.
Nana Marfo said that people of Safwi and its environs are peaceful, and all contributed in diverse ways to the creation of Western North Region of Ghana by the President to accelerate development, and believe in that vision, hence won’t do anything to mar it.
Nana, together with other chiefs, called on the chiefs of the Wiawso Traditional Area to pacify the gods for the curses invoked on the Regional Minister, as it is against the customs, practices and traditions for a chief or group of chiefs to invoke curses on any citizen of the land.
He said the Minister needs the support of all and sundry, especially the chiefs, in order to develop the region to attract investors.
He assured the government of the commitment and readiness of Nananom (chiefs) and the good people of the region to continuously support the Regional Minister and his deputy to champion socio-economic development.
