From Sammy Asare, Ahafo Kenyasi
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asutifi North in the Ahafo Region, Mr Anthony Mensah, has cautioned assembly members to desist from using motorbikes given to them by the government for commercial purposes because it is illegal.
Anthony Mensah disclosed this at a General Assembly Meeting in Kenyasi, the capital, where he presented 38 motorbikes to the assembly members on behalf of the government.
According to the DCE, the motorbikes are to be used by the assembly members to go about their daily activities to ensure the welfare and interest of their constituents.
He said the motorbikes are expected to be used to reach all residents within the electoral areas and to inform them about issues of relevance from the assembly.
He added that most residents complain of inadequate information regarding operations of the assembly, hence the provision of the motorbikes to address such complaints.
DCE Anthony Mensah noted that the Okada business is so lucrative at Kenyasi and cautioned the assembly members against being influenced to use the motorbikes for such activity, in order not to be questioned by both the assembly and the people.
“Let the culture of maintenance be your priority as far as the bikes are concerned”, the DCE advised.
