The Wenchi Municipal Assembly in the Bono Region has, in line with the government’s resolve to deepen the decentralisation process and local governance, presented 43 motorbikes to its members.
The motorbikes would enable them discharge their civic duties, as mandated by the local governance act.
Presenting the motorbikes, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Dr Prince Kwakye Afriyie, advised the assembly members to use them for the purpose for which they were given to facilitate the development of the municipality.
Dr Prince Kwakye Afriyie also thanked technocrats in the Wenchi Municipal Assembly for their commitment, dedication and sacrifice, and expressed the hope that they will continue with that spirit in the coming years.
The Presiding Member, Mr. Samuel Mensah, received the motorbikes on behalf of his colleagues, and commended the government for its commitment to resource the assembly, and also making its members mobile to discharge their duties effectively.
He urged the house “to be careful in using the motorbikes, and moreover, abide [by] all road traffic regulations.”
Mr. Mensah commended the Minister for Planning and Member of Parliament for Wenchi, Professor. George Gyan Baffour, and Prince Kwakye Afriyie for supporting the assembly over the years.
