The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman for Dafiama Bussie in the Upper West Region, Richard Poulabong Bayiilela, has been shot dead by unknown assailants.
Inspector Gideon Ohene Boateng, Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service, who confirmed the death, said about 10:30 pm on Wednesday, one Desmond Atingani was driving a Mercedes-Benz car with registration number GW 3366 Y from Kojokperi to Wa with four persons, including the deceased, on board.
According to him, the car was intercepted by four robbers, but the driver failed to stop, leading to the bandits shooting and killing Richard Bayiviella, 45, who was seated beside the driver.
The driver sustained gunshot wounds and was admitted at the Upper West Regional Hospital for treatment.
Inspector Boateng said an investigation is ongoing to get the perpetrators arrested to face the full rigours of the law.
Meanwhile, some party sources, including the Deputy Director of Elections in the region, Osman Seidu, are suspecting foul play and calling for thorough investigations into the case.
