The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Kwanwoma in the Ashanti Region, Nana Okyere Tawiah Antwi, has cut the sod for the construction of a three-unit classroom block for the D/A Junior High School (JHS) at Foase, the district capital.

The project, estimated to cost about GH¢300,000, is being funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and is expected to be completed within a period of three months.

The new building would replace the existing block, built over 70 years ago, without any form of renovation.

The DCE said at the sod cutting ceremony, graced by the chiefs and people of Foase, that there were other communities within the district in dire need of new schools, but he found it more prudent to replace the old school building.

The Nifahene of Foase, Nana Boa Amponsem, who represented the Foasehene, Nana Appiah Ampam Bediakoh II, commended the DCE for his untiring efforts to develop the district, and assured the Chief Executive of their support for the accelerated development of the district.

In a related development, Nana Okyere Tawiah Antwi has distributed assorted items running into millions of cedis to about 25 persons living with disabilities (PLWDs) in the area.

The gesture, funded through the District Assembly Common Fund, is the third the Assembly has undertaken in recent times. The DCE also presented health items to the Ghana Health Services office in the district.

The items included provisions, freezers, pop-corn machines, wheelchairs, spraying machines, industrial sewing machines, delivery beds and instruments, among others.

Nana Okyere Tawiah Antwi gave the assurance that the Assembly would continue to give support based on the monitoring of their enterprises.
