Atletico Madrid reduced the gap behind runaway LaLiga leaders Barcelona to nine points with a 2-0 home win against Celta Vigo.
With Diego Costa suspended for the remainder of the season after his red card at Barcelona last weekend, Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata filled the striker positions and both were on the score sheet.
Atletico’s defeat at the Nou Camp saw Barcelona take a giant step towards another league title but the Catalans offered Atletico the merest sliver of hope to their pursuers when a largely second-string side drew 0-0 at bottom club Huesca earlier on Saturday.
Diego Simeone’s team took advantage and an unstoppable free-kick from Griezmann, who smashed the ball into the top corner of the net beyond goalkeeper Ruben Blanco, put Atletico ahead just before half time.
Griezman then turned provider after 74 minutes as he set up Morata, who coolly rounded Blanco before putting the ball into an empty net.
