Inmates of the Edwenase Rehabilitation Centre in the Kwadaso Municipality in Kumasi, over the weekend, had the rare opportunity to share in the 75th Birthday Anniversary celebration of His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Mrs. Cynthia Morrison, together with her deputy, Mrs. Quashiga, travelled from Accra to Kumasi to celebrate the occasion at a time the President was on official duties in America.
The presidential staff donated bags of rice, soft drinks, bottled water, and provisions to the inmates, numbering about 98, who were served with soft drinks after which a birthday cake was cut to mark the occasion, amid the popping of champagne.
The Minister assured them that she had taken noted of their disability fund, and that she would work on it and make sure they receive it on time.
Mrs. Patricia Nkansah Kyeremateng, Ashanti Regional Director of the Department of Social Welfare, disclosed that some of the inmates are visually and hearing impaired, while others too cannot speak.
Mrs. Nkansah Kyeremateng stressed their usefulness in society even though it used to stigmatise people with disability in the years gone by.
