From Richard Owusu-Akyaw, Kumasi .
The management of the Ashanti Regional Office of Ghana Post Company Limited has called on the people in the region and beyond to register for the Ghana Post Service (GPS) to enable the company deliver parcels effectively.
Mr. Emmanuel Duodu, Ashanti Regional Coordinator of the GPS, who made the call that the number of registered persons for the service was still low, disclosed that, so far, over 10,000 people had registered, and explained that the registration exercise is getting less patronage, because, initially, the exercise was given out on contract, but some of the people engaged on casual basis had left.
Mr. Duodu explained that the tagging of the plate is not compulsory, but said it is beneficial for all to have one for identification to their homes and workplaces. The Regional Director, Mr. Johnson Asante, claimed awareness is low, and that management of the company is seriously working very hard on it through education.
He said management had engaged some Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) personnel to help drum home the need for the registration, and, therefore, hoped people would understand and register.
