Three persons were feared dead when a truck, belonging to Dangote Cement, fell off a bridge on the Nyanya end of the ever-busy Abuja-Keffi Expressway in the early hours of Saturday.
The bridge links Karu community with Nyanya, both in the Abuja Municipal Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
The truck, it was learnt, was fully loaded with bags of cement as of the time it crashed.
Some policemen in a patrol van were seen evacuating the remains of one of the victims as our correspondent was arriving at the scene of the accident at about 2pm.
Our correspondent reports that the truck’s head, which was completely detached from the remaining part, was inside the canal under the bridge while the remaining part was turned side-down beside the bridge.
As of the time of our correspondent’s visit, scavengers had besieged the venue of the accident.
While some were seen with sets of spanners, losing useful parts of the truck’s detached head, others were packing bags of cement into wheelbarrows. The scavengers operated unchallenged.
