As part of its social responsibility to people within its catchment area, AngloGold Ashanti, Obuasi Mine, has donated assorted items and cash totaling GH¢10,000 to the Obuasi Prisons, Adullam and Patmos Children’s homes, and Research Utilisation School for the Deaf, all in Obuasi.
The items donated included soft drinks, biscuits, bags of rice, cooking oil, cartons of bottled mineral water and bread.
Mr. Edmund Oduro Agyei, Senior Community Relations Officer, on behalf of the management of AngloGold Ashanti (A.G.A) Obuasi Mine, noted that this is not the first time the company was coming out with such donations to support the upkeep of the inmates of the four institutions.
He said the gesture was to make them happy, and also let them know that the company cares about them.
The Deputy Director of Prisons, Mr. Samuel Sapak Zoogah, said he was overwhelmed by the gesture from the company.
On challenges, he said Obuasi Prisons has only one pick-up that serves as both an administrative and farm vehicle, and appealed for an additional vehicle.
The representatives of the other three beneficiaries also took turns to thank AngloGold Ashanti for the donation.
