Nana Wireku Ampem Opoku, a member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has formally written to the party to express interest in contesting the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency bye-election.
The Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency has been vacant due to the demise of Emmanuel Boakye Agyarko, who was the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area on the ticket of the NPP.
According to Nana Opoku, he has served the party well at both the constituency and regional levels in many capacities, therefore, believes he has what it takes to serve the party and constituents.
Mr Opoku added that he has been tried and tested in the various positions he held, and that it was time he represented the constituents at a higher level of decision-making.
Speaking to the media after formally writing to the party, he disclosed that, currently, he is serving the party in the constituency as a Member of the Council of Elders, and always plays active roles in the party in the constituency, which, he said, had enabled the NPP to always maintain the seat.
He moreover stated that retaining the seat, which everyone knows belongs to the NPP, would not be easy, and, for that matter, the party needs somebody like him, who has held several positions, and, therefore, has vast experience in politics to be given the nod to retain the seat for the party.
He stressed the need for the party to remain united, and have someone who would hold the unity, which he stands for, adding that he believes in that unity and is ready to work with everybody in the constituency, especially the grassroots.
He disclosed that mostly the grassroots is the backbone of the party during elections, and must be included in every party activity to make retaining of the seat a mere formality for the NPP.
