From Alfred Kwesi Adams, Takoradi .
The Chief Finance Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Mrs Comfort Aniagyei, says significant progress has been made in activities geared toward determining the presence of hydrocarbons onshore the Voltaian Basin.
These include the acquisition of 20 seismic data, and the completion of geochemical data gathering and analysis. In addition to the Voltaian Basin Project (VBP), there are currently 13 projects at the exploration stage.
Speaking at the GNPC’s turn at the National Policy Summit, which was held in Takoradi this week, she also said the Licensing Bid Rounds and Negotiation (LBRN) Committee had mapped out three oil blocks that would be allocated through open and competitive tender.
Two out of the three would be given out after direct negotiations. The remaining one has been reserved for the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) to explore.
Mrs Comfort Aniagyei added that the block had been reserved for the GNPC, with the sole aim of helping the state-owned oil giant in developing its technical capacity.
The GNPC, however, has the option to develop the block alone or jointly with a strategic partner. The LDRN committee was inaugurated on May 18, 2018 to help the government undertake Ghana’s first competitive bidding in the sector.
The committee would enable the government to transparently invite, negotiate, and enter into petroleum agreements with competent and technical capabilities to fulfill agreed obligations.
Turning her attention on oil and gas, the Chief Finance Officer disclosed that total oil production of 298.57 million barrels standard (mmbls), with average daily production of168.586 bblls across three fields, were recorded as at September, 2018. Total volume of gas delivered to Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC), from November 2014 to September 2018, was 102,043 million standard cubic feet (MMscf)
At Jubilee Fields, a total of 242.26 mmbls was produced over eight years, with average daily production at approximately 86,000 barrels per day (bopd). Ghana has, therefore, lifted 43.53 mmbbls since the inception of oil production to now, September 2018. Total volume of gas delivered to the GNPC of 92,588 MMscf (November 2014-sept 201.
The TEN Fields production commenced in August 2016, and a total production, as at September 2018, stood at 43.30 mmbbls, representing (55,942 bopd). Ghana has, therefore, lifted 8.02 mmbbls from the TEN fields since inception. Total volume of gas delivered to GNGC was 8303 MMscf (May 2017-sept 2018).

Technical oil production commenced on 20 May 2017, and total production as at September 2018 was 13.01 mmbbls (25117 bopd). The Ghana group has lifted 0.99 mmbls from the SGN Fields.
Mrs Comfort Adiagyei told the summit at a round table discussion that proven national oil and gas reserves, as at September 2018, stood at 1,102.30 MMboe, comprising 760.03 mmbls and 1,987 billion cubic feet of gas.
Ghana, consequently, has over 36,000 km3 of open offshore and onshore acreages.
