Early Tuesday morning gas explosion at Tafo-Nhyiaeso, a surburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti region, has caused some fatalities, The Chronicle has gathered.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that 3 persons have died, with others sustaining various degrees of injuries.
The explosion occurred around 07:15am at Prime Gas located at Tafo-Nyiaeso.
According to the Ashanti Regional Coordinator of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr. Kwabena Senkyire, who confirmed the incident on Kumasi-based Agyenkwa FM, the explosion occurred when workers of Prime Gas were working on an underground tank.
According to him, the explosion started from their main tank which stores and distributes gas to other outlets.
Mr Senkyire, who was at the scene noted that people have sustained injuries, but yet to establish if people have died.
Roads leading to the scene have been blocked, causing vehicular traffic.
Meanwhile, personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service are currently at the scene working to control the fire.
