Celebrities got into the democratic spirit by hitting the polls yesterday to vote in the midterm elections.
In the hours since the polls opened, social media was flooded with ‘I Voted’ sticker selfies from stars including Jessica Biel, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Garner, Alyssa Milano, Drew Barrymore, Neil Patrick Harris, Demi Lovato, Jeff Goldblum, Marc Jacobs, Phoebe Robinson and countless others.
Both Beyonce and Jake Gyllenhaal revealed they were voting for Beto O’Rourke for senator in Texas, sharing photos of themselves in ‘Beto’ merchandise.
Kim Kardashian West, whose husband Kanye has been a vocal Donald Trump supporter, also shared a selfie with her ‘I voted’ sticker, although she didn’t reveal who she cast her vote for.
Actress and comedian Mindy Kaling posed in a patriotic blue-striped sweater with her ‘I Voted’ sticker on her chest, writing in an Instagram caption: ‘Thank you 14th Amendment for letting me vote today! Comment or tag yourself if you feel the same!’
Late Night host Seth Meyers posted a post-voting photo with his wife Alexi and their two-year-old son Ashe on Instagram, writing in the caption: ‘Our son was disappointed because he thought we were going to “boat” but otherwise a success! #Vote.’
Fellow host Jimmy Fallon also posted a polling place selfie with his wife Nancy Juvonen, writing on Twitter: ‘Vote with a friend! #GoVote #IVoted #WeVoted #MidtermElection2018.’
A number of stars have spent the last several months motivating their fans to exercise their right to vote this year.
And as Tuesday November 6 finally arrived those stars put their money where their mouth is.
Pop powerhouse Pink! shared a selfie with her ‘I Voted’ sticker on Instagram, writing in the caption: ‘BECAUSE NO ONE WILL EVER TAKE MY VOICE. I VOTED. Because they work for us. I VOTED. BECAUSE I HONOR THOSE THAT HAVE FOUGHT AND DIED FOR THESE RIGHTS. I voted. BECAUSE IN ORDER TO HAVE AN OPINION YOU MUST PARTICIPATE. I voted. GO BE LOUD. GO VOTE.’
Actress Alyssa Milano posted a video of herself excitedly driving a group of friends to their polling place in California.
Many other celebrities won’t be checking in at their local polling place today because they took advantage of early voting or sent in their ballots ahead of time.
Over the last month stars including Taylor Swift, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Camila Cabello, Emily Blunt and John Kransinski shared photos with their mail-in ballots and early voting stickers.
