TDC Limited gets Audit Committee

A five-member Audit Committee has been inaugurated for the Tema Development Company (TDC) Limited to ensure prudent financial management of the leading real estate company in the country.

The members, drawn from the Internal Audit Agency (IAA), Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG) and two representatives from the TDC’s Board are, Eric Osei Afriyie (ICAG), Maxwell Asare Brew (IAA), Sophia Apotey (IAA), Valerie Ashitey and Seth Abladey. The last two are Board Members of TDC Limited.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Tema, Nathan Yankey, who represented the Acting Director General (IAA), Ransford Adjei, outlined the relevance of the Audit Committee, saying that it is a requirement by the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921).

He stressed that the Audit Committee has very important and high level corporate governance committed in the Public Financial Management System.

The responsibility of the Audit Committee, he indicated, would be to ensure the effectiveness of public accountability, transparency, operational and financial performance, and efficient use of public assets and purse.

He advised the Committee to facilitate and advise the management of TDC Limited to ensure that transactions and activities of the company were carried out in accordance with the relevant laws, especially, the PFM Act, PPA Act and TDC’s own regulations and relevant guidelines.

The Acting Director General also appealed to the management of TDC to corporate with the Committee in its work for a successful outcome. “I wish to request that you make available to members copies all relevant policy documents, including TDC’s Strategic Plan, Work Plan, 2018 Budget, the PFM Act and the GEFA,” he said.

Samuel Asante, General Manager of Operations (TDC), in a brief remark, said the company would provide the needed support, and further give the Committee the outmost cooperation to enable it function effectively and efficient as expected.

Isaac Amartey, a representative from the IAA, who swore in the members, tasked them to perform their duties diligently, in order to protect the public purse.

Present at the ceremony were Kwabena Nyanor, Legal Director, Daniel Ayaim, Chief Internal Auditor, Abdul Mumin Yakubu, General Manager Finance and Administration, Vida Asiedu Amponsah, Marketing Manager, and Ian Okwei, Protocol and Administrative Officer.
