From Richard Owusu-Akyaw, Kumasi .
A Senior House Master of Kumasi Secondary Technical School (KSTS) has allegedly impregnated a female student of the school, and subsequently compelled her to abort the baby. Mr. Samuel Patterson Asamoah, the embattled Housemaster who is under investigation, is alleged to have impregnated the second-year student and compelled her to abort the baby.
It is unclear how old the pregnancy was when it was aborted.
Intelligence available to this paper has it that the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate has ordered the authorities at KSTS to set up a committee to investigate the matter and submit a report to the regional office in seven days.
Information has it that over the weekend, the poor girl, who was taken ill, was rushed to a first care hospital near the school, by the authorities, before she was later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
While the South Suntreso Police denied arresting the teacher, the Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr. Mark Ofori, confirmed that there has been case of that sort, and the teacher who impregnated the girl compelled her to abort the baby.
He told The Chronicle that they are conducting primary investigations into the case to unravel what actually went on between the teacher and the girl, and that until the investigation is over, he cannot say much.
He explained that per the status quo of the GES, they are quite concerned about the breach in ethics.
This, he continued, was going to be the main issue under which the GES is going to investigate the case, adding that in such circumstances, the parents and guardians report the case to the police for further action, which is the right of the parent or guardian.
