A 29-year-old Nigerian national appeared before an Accra Circuit Court yesterday, charged with defiling a 9-year old class 2 pupil.
Solomon Ebinim, the accused, reportedly lured the minor to an obscure corner to commit the horrendous act.
The Prosecutor, Detective Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire, therefore, prayed the court remand the suspect for further investigations to be conducted, a plea which was accepted by the presiding judge, Mrs. Rita Abrokwa Doko. The suspect is expected to reappear on October 24, 2018.
Reading the facts of the case, Detective Chief Inspector Atimbire said the Complainant, Elizabeth Annang, 26, is a trader and lives at James Town Lighthouse.
The victim is a 9-year old girl, who is a class 2 pupil and lives under the care of the complainant, who is her guardian.
The suspect, Solomn Ebinim, is a Nigerian national who is 29 years old and unemployed. He lives on the same compound with the complainant.
According to the Prosecution, on October 8, 2018, at about 3:00am, the victim woke up to go and have her bath, when Ebinim spotted her.
Prosecution said Ebinim then called her to an obscure corner and laid her on a blanket on which he had been sleeping.
He eventually removed her pant and had sexual intercourse with her. Unfortunately for him, whiles in the act, one Kwadwo, who was passing by saw them and raised an alarm.
The Prosecutor told the court that Ebinim was immediately apprehended and sent to the James Town Police Station where the matter was subsequently transferred to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unite of the Ghana Police Service, Greater Accra Region.
