botchway October 4, 2018

The Asutifi North District Assembly has presented office chairs and air conditioners to the Kenyasi Magistrate Court.

The presentation was in response to a request by the Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo, during her official working tour of courts in the region, during which she appealed to Municipal and District Assemblies in the region to support courts in their jurisdiction to operate and discharge their duties effectively.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asutifi North, Mr. Anthony Mensah, who made the presentation, disclosed the assembly’s readiness to collaborate with the judiciary by providing infrastructure and logistics for the efficient and effective justice delivery in the district.

According to the DCE, delays in the adjudication of cases by the courts were due to the lack of motivation and basic logistics to discharge their mandate, which, ultimately, affects business and private sector collaboration with the judiciary.

“The lack of support for the judiciary, which plays a vital role in the democratic and economic development of the country, is bad as it has the tendency to attract low investments due to weak dispute resolution mechanisms,” the DCE said.

Mr. Mensah said the donation was in line with the government’s desire to resource and partner agencies, to enable them meet standards in their core mandate

He, therefore, appealed to the judiciary to live up to expectations by being professional in the discharge of their duties.

He expressed concern about that increasing crime rate in the district, and appealed to stakeholders in the area to support and collaborate with the judiciary, police, and other security agencies to control the situation.

The District Magistrate, His Worship Christian Hevi Affuflu, who received the items, commended the assembly for the gesture.

He stated that the support was timely and appropriate, as the court had faced serious staffing, accommodation, and logistical challenges for years, and pledged to ensure that they are used appropriately to enhance judicial services in the district.

He called on other partners support the judiciary to dispense justice and create the needed conducive atmosphere for development.
