Solomon Nyantakyi, Assembly Member for the Bosofour Electoral Area in the Mampong Municipality, has organised free registration and renewal of National Health Insurance cards for residents in his area.
The exercise took place at the Bosofour Community Centre for the benefit of pregnant women, children and the elderly.
According to him, about 700 people are expected to benefit from this philanthropic exercise.
Nyantakyi, who is also the Presiding Member for the Mampong Municipal Assembly, revealed that aside taking into consideration the health needs of his people, he has also been organising free remedial classes for Primary and Junior High students during their school vacation consistently for the past eight years.
The Presiding Member explained that a sound mind lived in a healthy body, hence the health support to his constituents to enable them access healthcare without the National Health Insurance card being a hindrance.
“The National Health Insurance Scheme is a very laudable initiative meant to ensure that our health needs are adequately catered for, but, regrettably, not many people are able to access the scheme because of renewal and registration issues,” the Presiding Member bemoaned.
He appealed to institutions and well-meaning individuals in and outside Asante Mampong to come on board to support him, noting that the free insurance registration and renewal of cards of over 700 residents of Bosofour would cost over GH¢7,000.
Some of the beneficiaries disclosed that the support was timely, because it had come at a time when many of them were faced with financial challenges.
