ACP Mr. Kwaku Buah, Manhyia Divisional Police Commander, has cautioned the general public to be mindful of making their PIN numbers on mobile money known to others, to avoid being defrauded.
According to him, E-payment has come to stay with us, hence, the need for everyone to protect his or her PIN number at all times.
He also entreated both merchants and agents to protect their record books in order not to make the numbers of clients accessible to others.
Mr. Nii Adotey Mingle, Northern Sector General Manager of MTN, explained that the month of August had been assigned as the official month of MTN Mobile Money every year to help educate and interact with users to ensure safe transactions.
He indicated that MTN is the pioneer and leader of mobile money, and it is appropriate because of technological advancements in transaction to drive a cashless agenda to enable clients interact.
He said all forms of payment being digitised help easy transaction of monies, as MTN has about 100,000 agents, 50,000 merchants and 17 banks, while institutions like Ghana Water Company and Electricity Company of Ghana take their monies through mobile money.
He entreated the public to keep monies on their mobile phones for their day to day transactions, and disclosed that, MTN, this year, paid about GH¢98.9 million in interest to its clients who transacted business and saved monies through its mobile money.
