The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, has called on the chiefs and people in the southern part of the Volta region to support the call by their counterparts in the northern part of the region for the creation of the Oti region.

According to the president, when government is brought closer to the people, it promotes faster development and makes governance easier.

President Nana Akufo Addo said the Justice Brobbey Commission had submitted its final report to his office, which paved way for the creation of the new region out of the existing Volta.

He appealed to the chiefs not to allow the creation of the new region to bring about animosity between the people in the south and those in the new region.

According to him, the creation of new regions in the country is not new and that Ghana once upon a time had only three regions, but new ones were latter created, including the last one – the splitting of Upper Region by the then head of State, Jerry John Rawlings.

President Akufo Addo reassured the chiefs and people of the Volta Region of his commitment to complete projects started by the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, as he promised Ghanaians.

He was speaking at separate durbars on the first day of his three-day tour of the Volta region at Keta, Tadzewu and Anloga.

At Anloga, he inaugurated a shopping centre started by the NDC government and commended his predecessor.

Nana Akufo Addo made it clear that the NPP government has good programmes and policies geared towards ensuring rapid development of the country.

According to him, it is based on this vision that he started the implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme.

The President also disclosed that government was making conscious efforts to ensure that contractors working on the Keta sea defense project had been paid for them to return to site. The president further told the people that the construction of the Keta Harbour would be carried out to help promote economic activities in the area.

Nana Addo also inaugurated Courage Quashigah Memorial hostel for the Keta Nursing and Midwifery Training College at Keta, which was initiated by the former Minister of Health during former President J.A Kuffour’s regime. He paid tribute to Major Courage Quashigah, stressing the NPP and Ghanaians would forever remember him.

He assured the college authorities that government would initiate moves to help address the infrastructure challenges confronting the school as enumerated by the Acting Principal of the College, Madam Rejoyce Aheto.

The Awomefia of Anlo, Togbui Sri III appreciated government’s development activities saying the one-district-one factory and the Planting for Food and Job programmes are sound initiatives of the NPP government that would not only go a long way to create jobs for the teaming unemployed youth but also improve the socioeconomic lives of the people. Togbui Sri also expressed the gratitude of the chiefs and people of Anlo to President Nana Addo for the construction of a landing beach for the people at Anloga .

The Paramount Chief of Afife traditional area, Togbui Adrakpanya IV appealed to the  government for a traditional council and also create a new district out of Ketu-North District with the proposed name as Ketu West district to help facilitate rapid development of the area.

Togbui Adrakpanya also appealed to government to upgrade the Ohawu Agricultural College into a university where the youth would be trained to acquire various skills in agriculture
