Paul Asare Ansah, the immediate past Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has organised a health walk in the Asuogyaman Constituency, where he hails from, to announce his readiness to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) primary in the constituency, when the party opens nominations.
Paul Asare Ansah contested the NPP primary in 2015, but was defeated in the two-horse race.
That notwithstanding, it did not affect his support for the party, and even after President Akufo-Addo sacked him as the Director General of the GPHA, he still encouraged the supporters of the NPP in his constituency to rally behind the government and party.
Therefore, to openly test his popularity in the constituency about 7,000 Asuogyaman NPP Polling Station Executives, supporters and sympathisers, together with Constituency Executives on Monday held a health walk, dubbed: ‘Keeping Fit For 2020’, to throw their weight behind Mr Ansah.
The walk was sponsored by Paul Ansah with participants smartly dressed in his branded T-shirts. The group walked about five kilometres from Tusker, a suburb of the constituency, through Atimpoku to Akrade displaying banners and his pictures. The turnout was unprecedented in the political history of the area.
Addressing the charged crowd, Mr Paul Asare Ansah, who has become the ‘darling boy’ of Asuogyaman NPP, thanked the participants for their massive turnout, entreating them to rally behind the NPP government in its quest to deliver on its promises.
He further declared his intention to contest the Asuogyaman MP seat when nominations open for election 2020.
He, thus, charged the NPP in the constituency to unite and work hard to wrestle the seat from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mr Twum Barimah, the Eastern Regional 2nd Vice Chairman of the NPP, on his part appealed to the youth to exercise patience and throw their support behind the government, as it rolls out various social interventions that are set to create job opportunities for them.
The Constituency Chairman, Dr Godfred Akyea Darkwah, thanked Paul Asare Ansah for his immense contribution towards the progress of the party in the Asuogyaman Constituency in particular and towards the building of an office complex for the party.
Dr Godfred Akyea Darkwah and 600 delegates from 37 electoral areas pledged their total support and allegiance to Mr Ansah to lead the NPP in 2020.
According to them, it is Paul Ansah’s goodwill that has made the NPP attractive in the constituency, during opposition and now that the party is in government.
