Melcom Limited, a subsidiary of the Melcom Group of Companies, has opened an ultra-modern facility for commercial shopping at Koforidua, the capital of the Eastern Region.
Addressing the gathering, the Managing Director of the Melcom Group of Companies, Mr. Ramesh Sadhawani, said the commissioning of the new branch was part of the company’s commitment to support the government efforts by creating additional job opportunities for the youth in Koforidua.
According to him, as private company, its rules of engagement are strictly in accordance with the laid down laws governing labour, adding that, as employers, they provide the best inputs to the staff and also demand in return best work outputs, because of competitiveness in the industry.
“We engage our staff in skills development in order to help them upgrade their knowledge in our areas of operation for improved standard of living,” he added.
Mr. Sadhwani said for residents to feel the presence of Melcom wherever it operates, the company has set up a Melcom Care Foundation, as a subsidiary, to identify needy areas in education and health to provide support as part of its social responsibilities.
To him, Melcom believes working together as a team can facilitate success under the Public, Private Partnership, adding that the company is ready to corporate in support of similar schemes as part of its contribution towards nation building.
The Managing Director said Melcom will continue to provide larger shopping areas for more products, ranging from lower to the upper market, and, in addition, where possible, rent space for other companies to do business alongside it.
Subsequently, the company, as part of its corporate social responsibility, handed over a newly-built community center for the people of New Juaben, presented 30 mono-desks to schools in the Municipality, as well as giving out 10 sewing machines to some dressmakers on Friday during the grand opening of the facility.
The New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, Comfort Asante, in her speech, commended Melcom Group of Companies for assisting in creating additional jobs for the youth, and also the kind gesture.
She said the government had identified the private sector as the engine of growth and partners of job creation, hence its commitment to strengthen Public, Private Partnership to enhance development.
