The attention of the Nabdam District Assembly has been drawn to a news publication on your paper (The Chronicle Vol. 27 No. 93) 30th May, 2018 edition, in which the above caption was on your front page with the details on page three (3).
We wish to state that there is no community in Nabdam called Zamela as contained in your report on page 3, and that nothing of that sort occurred in the District, hence, your report was inaccurate and highly unfortunate.
We wish to state that your report will scare investors away from the District and bring the name of the District into disrepute.
We strongly state that the report be retracted and corrected within two weeks to reflect the situation, if, indeed, it happened somewhere else, or else we would initiate legal actions against you.”
Hoping to hear from you.
District Chief Executive
Having done our checks after we received this rejoinder on the above subject, we have established that, indeed, Zamela is not in the Nabdam District. However, The Chronicle has done no wrong in capturing Zamela as a community in the Nabdam District, since we relied on facts presented before the court by Operation Kondanlgou – 2018, and the police prosecutor captured Zamela as a community in the Nabdam District.
In court reporting, facts or information presented by prosecutors are what we report on, and this was not different in our story that captured Zamela as a community in the Nabdam District. We cannot, therefore, be faulted for any wrongdoing.
