The Offinso Municipal Assembly has assisted schools affected by a recent rainstorm in the municipality with building materials worth GH¢26,500 for the renovation of affected buildings.
The items included 200 bags of cement, 30 boxes of nails, and 100 packets of roofing sheets.
They are St. Jerome M/A Primary and Senior High School (SHS), Abofuor M/A Junior High School, Namong M/A Basic School, Kokote Methodist Primary, Kyebi Primary and Kensere Primary School.
Mr. Thomas Kesseh, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who presented the items, explained that the gesture was part of efforts by the government, through the Assembly, to ensure that there is improvement in the standard of education in the municipality.
He disclosed that the rainstorm ripped off most of the roofs of the affected schools, making teaching and learning difficult for both teachers and students, hence the Assembly’s swift response to make sure there is a conducive environment in the schools.
Madam Lydia Bretuo, Headmistress of St. Jerome Senior High School, whose school was one the beneficiaries, commended the MCE for the kind gesture, saying they came at the right time when the schools needed the items most.
She said the school authorities would use the items judiciously and for the intended purposes to ensure that the students have conducive environments for learning.
The Headmistress reminded the the Assembly on the need to expand infrastructural facilities in the school to enable it admit more students, in line with the Free Senior High School policy.
