From Samuel Agbewode, Ho
A National First Vice Chairman contestant of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Kenwuud Nuworsu, says it is vital for the party to elect candidates who have previously held positions within the party at various levels as national officers.
Mr. Nuworsu said the era when the party elects people who have never held any position in the party to become national officers were over, and that the NPP needed people with vast experience to hold national positions to bring their rich experiences to bear on the operations of the party.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Chronicle in Ho, the liberal democrat and an astute politician, stressed that his decision to contest for the First Vice National Chairman position of the NPP was borne out of the love he has for the party, which he has dedicated himself to for the past 30 years.
He said the time has come for the delegates of the NPP to invoke the tradition of the party, which rewards loyalty, hard work and commitment, saying, “Kenwuud has become a household name within the NPP in the Volta Region and the country at large” because of the work he had done in the past, and urged the delegates to vote massively for him as the First Vice National Chairman of the NPP.
Mr. Nuworsu pointed out that as the youngest founding member of the NPP in 1992 in the Volta Region, he participated in all civil and democratic movements, which fought the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC) military dictatorship for the return of Ghana to democratic constitutional rule in 1992, and that he continued to uphold and defend NPP’s cherished values that strengthen the party.
He said his rich experience, as a result of commitment to party work, made him the best candidate for the position of First Vice National Chairman, and urged the delegates to vote for him to enable him to put his rich experience to bear on activities of the party at the national level.
Mr. Nuworsu pointed out that the experiences he gathered as a member of the National Council of the NPP, from 1996 to 2013, a member of the National Disciplinary Committee of the party from 2009 to 2013, member of the NPP 2016 Manifesto Drafting Committee, and a three-time elected Volta Regional Chairman of the NPP, made him the best of all the candidates who would be in position to promote party growth and development.
He continued that as somebody who held various positions at the regional and national levels of the party, including elected Volta Regional Secretary on two occasions, from 1994 to 1996, and retained in 1996 to 1999, as well as the first elected Volta Regional Youth Organiser of the NPP in 1992 to 1994 among other positions, put him in pole position for the contest.
Mr. Nuworsu said the future of the NPP looks bright, and the delegates have a role to play in ensuring that the party develops to an enviable level that would proudly be admired by all.
He, therefore, asked the delegates to vote for him, because voting for Kenwuud as the First Vice National Chairman of the NPP would be the best decision the delegates would make.
He promised that when voted for, he would give back to the NPP the experience and knowledge acquired over the years, offer dedicated and loyal leadership, effectively manage party and government relationship, build a strong party to protect and insulate government, and bridge the generational gap, as well as defend and protect the UP tradition and legacy of the NPP in the Volta Region.
Mr. Kenwuud Nuworsu, a 53-year-old man, is a businessman, commercial farmer, human and civil rights activist, a politician and former Deputy Minister for Manpower, Youth and Employment during former President J.A Kufuor’s regime. He led delegations to represent Ghana at many international conferences.
