The Mayor of Kumasi, Osei Assibey Antwi has paid a visit to the Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) in Kumasi to console the Headmistress, Mrs. Mary Cromwell Owusu, management, and students, as well as family members, following the stabbing to death of a 19-year-old student on Wednesday night by unknown assailants on campus.
The KMA boss, in the company of the Regional Director of Education, Mrs. Mary Owusu Achiaw, and Ms. Monica Ankrah, Kumasi Metro Director of Education, and the Ashanti Regional Deputy Police Commander, DCOP Fred Adu Anim, assured the parents, teachers and students that security would be stepped up to protect lives on campus.
The late Godfred Arthur, a final year General Arts student, met his untimely death when unknown assailants invaded the school at about 10pm, and in the process stabbed him in the neck.
It is unclear what the motive for the attack was.
The Board Chairman of the school, Mr. Owusu Ansah, indicated that the school authorities were assisting the police in their investigations.
A team of crime officers from the Tafo-Pankronu Divisional Police Command have since been deployed to the school as part of investigations.
Meanwhile, two persons have been arrested by the Kumasi police in connection with the gruesome murder of the final year student.
The suspects, whose identities are yet to be established, are suspected to be part of a gang of armed men who attacked the school and reportedly stabbed 19-year-old Godfred Arthur twice in the neck while he attempted to run away from them.
