Karela 3:1 Hearts
Karela’s William Opoku-Mensah worsened the plight of Glorious Accra Hearts of Oak yesterday when he came from the bench to grab a hat trick for his side at the CAM Park.
Earlier, Daniel Kodie broke the stalemate for under pressure coach Henry Wellington’s side, a situation that rekindled the spirit of the Phobians, who suffered a 2-1defeat at home to Sharks on Sunday
However, Coach Johnson Smith, who read the game from an angle that perhaps his opposite number did not see, introduced the hat trick man from the bench, who eventually became the hero of the day.
This is the third time Hearts of Oak has conceded three goals as far as the 2017/2018 premiership is concerned.
The rather embarrassing situation where Hearts have picking three goals in their net in three matches is unprecedented in the club’s history in recent times.
Ashgold pummelled them by 3-1 on match day two, while Brekum Chelsea thrashed them by 3-0 on match day 5, before Karela added theirs yesterday.
It appears some of the premiership clubs have discovered a brilliant way of beating the former Champions League winners this season and they are using it to their advantage.
It is not clear what will be the faith of coach Wellington in the coming days as pressure continues to mount on him match after match following his side’s rather bizarre performance.
Bechem United 2:1 Wa All Stars
Hafis Konkon punished Wa All Stars when they came up against Bechem United. His brace on the afternoon was enough to secure the 3 points at stake for his side despite the visitor’s consolation.
WAFA 1:1 Ashgold
Obuasi Ashgold came from a goal down to draw level with WAFA in Sogakope. C. K. Akonor’s side continue to show their intention to win the league even though it is early days yet.
Their survival at WAFA can clearly attest to the fact that they are in for a real fight for the trophy.
Inter Allies 1:0 Eleven Wonders
International Allies’ Abdul Nasiru’s goal against visiting Techiman Eleven Wonders won the points for his side as the Techiman lads simply could not fetch the equaliser.
Kotoko 3:1 Berekum Chelsea
Frederick Boateng’s strike in the second half cancelled Berekum Chelsea’s Latif Salifu’s first half lead when Kotoko played as host to Chelsea in Kumasi yesterday.
The red devils, who suffered a painful 1-0 defeat over the weekend at the hands of Dreams F/C came into the game in high spirit to win and keep their hopes of winning the trophy alive.
However, the visitors, who came into the game as underdogs, nearly punished the home side in the presence of their teaming fans, but for the timely intervention of Keeper Felix Annan.
Maybe Stephen Amankwana, who led the attack after injured Latif Salifu could not return, should be blamed for wasting a glorious opportunity that came his way in the dying embers of the game.
Stoned referee Liman ends Sharks, Medeama duel
Things fell apart and the centre could not hold when Elmina Sharks played as host to Medeama S/C in Elmina yesterday as the game came to an abrupt end after 45 minutes of action.
The centre referee, Nuhu Liman, could not return to officiate the second department of the game when he picked a knock on his head just after he ended the first half.
It was not known at the time of filing this report who actually threw the stone that caused the referee to bleed profusely.
