Elmina Sharks pulled off a major upset on matchday seven after defeating Hearts of Oak 2-1 at the Cape Coast Stadium on Saturday in the Ghana Premier League.
Sharks took a shock lead in the 20th minute after a short corner routine between Suraj and Obeng Crentsil, whose cross into the box was met by Felix Addo to head into the net.
The visitors found joy again in the 41st minute when Suraj set up skipper Daniel Obeng Crentsil who made no mistake to score and make it 2-0.
Coach Henry Wellington responded with two substitutions at half time, Malik Akowuah and Winful Cobinnah came on in place of Samudeen and Selasie in midfield.
The tactical master stroke had its effect as the Phobians regained control and dominated play at the start of the second half.
Malik Akowuah pulled one back on the hour mark with a well drilled shot from distance.
The Phobians kept on piling pressure with Esso in particular coming close, but the Elmina-based side held on to run away with all three points.
Hearts of Oak have now lost three of their opening 7 games while Elmina Sharks secured only their second win of the season.
