From Nana Penya Appiah, Anwiankwanta
Residents of Anwiankwanta in the Bekwai Municipality, last Friday, witnessed a gory accident, when a tipper truck crashed into seven vehicles and ran over a vulcaniser, killing him instantly.
The Asante Bekwai District Police Commander, DSP Edward Obeng Boateng, narrated that around 4 pm, his outfit had information that a Daf petrol tanker, with registration number GT 7251-10, was involved in an accident alongside seven other vehicles.
He further explained that information they gathered at the accident scene was that the petrol tanker was coming from Manso Nkwanta, and to the surprise of the people around, the driver lost control and the tanker headed towards the main Obuasi-Kumasi road.
Unfortunately, in the process of crossing the stretch the tanker crashed into a Man Diesel cargo truck with registration number GT 9627 11 and dragged it along to kill Akwasi Dabo, the vulcaniser.
About four other taxi cabs and a private saloon car were also involved in the accident. The seriously injured persons were taken to Abenkyiman Hospital for treatment.
The Assembly Member for the Anwiankwanta Electoral Area, Mr. Sarfo Kantanka, advised the residents to stop placing container shops along the roadsides. He also appealed to the District Assembly to demolish unauthorised structures along the road.
The Nkosuohene of Anwiankwanta, Nana Appiah Kubi, on his part, advised the residents to stop trading at the roadsides, and issued a stern warning to the town committee to desist from demarcating the roadsides for the placement of containers.
