Stories from Isaac Akwetey-Okunor
An 11-year-old burns survivor got unexpected inspiration from the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Joy Industries Limited, Dr. Manfred Takyi, when it appeared all his hopes were gone for his parents to raise money for his surgery.
Characteristic of the young and unassuming CEO, who could not hold back his tears after hearing the horrific and pathetic story of unfortunate Emmanuel Manyo, he donated an amount of GH¢4,000 to take care of the boy’s surgery on Monday, March 26, 2018 at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
He had suffered third-degree burns over 87 percent of his body – the kind that sears through three layers of skin, through fat and muscle, of which people normally don’t survive.
The story of this young boy, who got burnt during a fire outbreak in his family house at Akyem Maase in the Eastern Region, has touched the heart of Joy Industries Limited to support him undergo surgery at the Burns and Plastic Surgery Unit of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
The boy, who was on the programme dubbed Aseda Mmre on Bryt 99.1 FM, one of the stations of Joy Daddy Multimedia, hosted by Nana Kwabena Appiah, to apparently seek financial assistance from the public for his surgery.
Divine Mother and Child Foundation, which is the official health partner of Joy Industries, received the donation on behalf of the family, and would collaboratively work with the family before, during and after the surgery.
Joy Industries, through the foundation, since 2014, has supported over 50 poor and needy in the Eastern Region to undergo surgeries and other medical conditions, and paid their medical bills.
The Divine Mother and Child Foundation still needs donations from individuals and organisations to support the poor boy, as well as the family, as he goes through the surgery, which will take care of other medical expenses at the hospital by calling this phone number, (+233) 506494514, to support.
