Eastern GJA organizes free health and breast cancer screening Stories from Isaac Akwetey-Okunor

As part of activities marking this year’s World Press Freedom Day and maiden Eastern Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards, the Association has decided to organise, in partnership with Peace and Love Hospital and Breast Care International, a free health and breast cancer screening exercise.
The exercise is slated for Saturday March 24, 2018, at the Effiduase Community Center, now known as New Juaben North Municipal Assembly, at 8am.
The following would be screened for: Hypertension, Diabetes, Body Mass Index (BMI), as well as education on all forms of cancer, including breast cancer, and breast examination by the Peace and Love Hospital among others.
The GJA-ER encourages all journalists, media practitioners and the general public to spend some minutes off their busy schedules to partake in this free health screening exercise, since a health body is a sound mind.
The Eastern Regional branch of the GJA has officially opened nominations for journalists to submit their works for awards in the various categories in the upcoming maiden Regional Awards.
The regional GJA, under the leadership of Mr. Maxwell Kudekor, has decided to award media practitioners in the region, as an impetus to promote responsible journalism.
This maiden edition will be held under the theme: ‘Repositioning the Eastern Region for investments and jobs creation: Role of the Media,’ and is open to journalists in the Eastern Region working in the print, electronic and online media, including news agencies.
There will be eight categories in the maiden edition, which are: 1. Business/SME Reporting 2. Environment Reporting 3. Rural Reporting 4. Road Safety Reporting 5. Water and Sanitation Reporting 6. Crime and Court Reporting 7. Development Programme of the Year 8. Indigenous Newscaster of the Year.
Below are the entry requirements.
Apart from members of the Regional Executive and the Awards Committee, who are not eligible to contest, all other journalists working and practicing in the Eastern Region are eligible to contest.
There shall be ONE award for all platforms in each of the categories i.e., Print, Electronic and Online).
