From Naabenyin  Joojo Amissah, Assin Andoe
A Class Three pupil of the Assin Adubease D/A Primary School in the Assin South District of the Central Region, Akwasi Adu, was on Friday subjected to cruel beatings by his father, Mr Edward Appiah Antwi.
Akwasi Adu, 11 years, sustained bruises on his whole body as the result of his father’s heartless beating, and has been out of school since the incident occurred.
Narrating his ordeal to The Chronicle about how he fell to his father’s cruelty that fateful day, he said, he followed the father to his new site in the morning.
While at the site, he said, the father sent him to their house to pick something for him, but on his way, he met his teacher who asked him to submit his homework.
He, therefore, picked his assignment book and submitted to his teacher who was waiting at the school, but immediately afterwards, the rains started to fall, which prevented him from going back to the father.
According to the boy, his inability to return to the father at the site infuriated him, and on his return to the house, his father subjected him to severe beatings.
Akwasi Adu further alleged that his father threw him out of the room so he slept on the veranda till the next morning, despite the fact he was traumatised by the beatings.
He again stated that because of the trauma he went through at the hands of his own father, he could not sleep throughout the night. On top of the trauma, he said, his father asked him to leave Assin Adubease, where they stay together with his stepmother, and go to his biological mother at Assin Andoe.
His mother, Awo Kwatemaa, told this reporter that she broke down in tears when her eleven-year-old son reported to her with marks all over his body and a blood-stained eye. “We have taken him to the hospital and he is responding to treatment,” she added.
When contacted, Mr Edward Appiah Antwi, who is the Assembly Member for the Assin Andoe Electoral Area and teaches at Assin Adubease D/A Primary School, admitted the offence.
He said, “He is my son. He went wrong and I wanted to correct him, but I think that I went too far. I know I have done something wrong.”
The Chronicle can confirm that Edward Appiah Antwi has been picked up by the police at Assin Damang for questioning.
