Joseph Mc Ali Junior of the Tema Magistrate Court ‘2’, last Thursday, swore in new members to officially outdoor the creation the Tema West District Assembly.
The new assembly is among the 38 new Metropolitan, Municipal and District assemblies (MMDAs) the government promised in November 2017, and the idea is to facilitate development through decentralisation.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony at Sakumono, Yaw Osafo Maafo, Senior Minister, said the ceding of the Tema West District is a manifesto promise of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to promote decentralisation to aid national development and the rule of law.
He said Tema West, within the Tema Metropolis, has a big potential to develop, owing to the numerous industries in Tema.
With Tema Community ‘2’, as the district capital, Yaw Osafo Maafo charged the new assembly to tackle sanitation head-on, especially with Zoomlion already aiding the ‘new kid on the block’ with equipment.
As the smallest district, he said the Tema West Assembly has no excuse to fail in sanitation, particularly, with Zoomlion aiding it with equipment.
He assured the Tema West District Assembly of the government’s support as a new assembly that would need development to be at par with others.
Seth Ocran, Tema Regional Zoomlion Manager, on behalf of the company, presented 30 litterbins and some tricycles to the new assembly for a clean Tema West District.
The gesture, he promised, would not be the last.
