Ghana Music Week Open’s This Weekend

new Tourism Minister Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-AdjareThe Ghana Music Week (GMW) will be held at the National Theater from March 4 to 10, 2013, under the theme: “Engaging Music as a Catalyst for Unity and National Growth”.

The opening ceremony commences at 10.00a.m at the National Theatre on 4th March, 2013.

GMW 2013 is being supported by the newly sworn in Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, in partnership with MUSIGA.

The event is expected to attract over 500 musicians, bands, industry experts from around the world and representatives of Music Unions from Africa and United Kingdom.

In a press release, which was signed by Tourism Officer, Mr. Alphonse Kumaza, has cited that the show will be celebrating various Ghanaian music genres each night, including two major events at the Accra Sports Stadium and National Theater on 6 March and 9th March respectively.

“The week long festivities have been scheduled as an annual event with the aim of attracting tourists from across the world to Ghana, during the period of the festival. It is our intention that Ghana Music Week will become one of the most prominent music festivals on the continent”, it Added.

Highlights of GMW include: Sales & Exhibition (display of industry products & services all week), seminars, symposiums, workshops (all week), stakeholders dialogue, GH Music Day on radio, Music Essay contest (National) and Creative Industries Day.

Others are Ghana Unity Concert (Independence Splash-), Musiga Honours and All-star Concert, Food & Chillzone (including bars, pub & nightclub).

Our key goal is to create the industry’s biggest platform to bring together and encourage the participation of artistes, stakeholders, the media, and decision/policy makers and music users; and to recognize, promote & underscore the importance and value of Ghanaian music forms.
