Friends of Bawumia inaugurated in Kumasi
From Issah Alhassan, Kumasi
Friends of Mahamudu Bawumia (FOBA), a pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) group, has been officially outdoored in Kumasi to spearhead the campaign of the running mate of the party.
The group, whose membership currently stands at 2,000, made up of active youth within the party, has vowed to lead the front for the party’s campaign towards the 2012 general elections, focusing on the achievements and credentials of Dr. Bawumia.
FOBA is also focused on organising shake-up activities to bring more people on board, and to start forming their groups in their various constituencies, with their main spotlight on the Muslim communities in the country.
At the inauguration ceremony held at the Centre for National Culture, the National Coordinator of FOBA, Odeneho Nana Oppong, said the group would portray Dr. Bawumia’s records as an astute economist and banker of international distinction, who had contributed to local, continental and the global economic development.
“This is a group emerging vigorously to support the party, and also to set the records straight on the issues of Dr. Bawumia, against the vile propaganda and lies of some political opponents,” he said.
Nana Oppong expressed worry that the three-year administration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had collapsed all credible foundations of the socio-economic development programmes such as the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Capitation Grant, and Free School Feeding Programme amongst others, which were introduced by the previous NPP government.
He, however, noted that a vote for Nana Akufo Addo and Dr. Bawumia would ensure the revival of all those policies that have collapsed under the NDC, stressing that the youth of the country would also have the opportunity to free Senior High School education, and also acquire training in skills that will enhance their job prospects.
Nana Oppong added that the transformational programme of the NPP, as captured in its manifesto, was aimed at creating the enabling environment for businesses and industrial development, thus enhancing Ghana’s economic growth.
The Ashanti Regional Coordinator of FOBA discredited the assertion that the NPP was an Akan party, and called on all the Zongo communities and the supporters of the party to disabuse their minds of that false notion.
Mr. E. K Adutwum, General Secretary of the group, urged the electorate to be wary and reject any form of monetary or material influences in an attempt to buy their conscience.
