Ekumfi District appeals to President for DCE

Some citizens of eight communities in the newly-created Ekumfi District have appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to nominate a District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area to speed up development.

The communities are Ekumfi Narkwa, Otuam, Srafa, Naanaben, Emuna, Akra, Eyisam and Esakyire.

Mr. Kobina Engo, their spokesperson, told a press conference at Ekumfi Otuam that the continued oversight responsibility by the Regional Minister of the district would not help them, because of the distance.

Mr. Engo said the President had nominated DCEs for other newly-created districts in the Central Region, which is facilitating the development of those areas, and these are the Twifo Hemang Lower and Awutu-Senya East districts, leaving out Ekumfi.

He said they were not happy about the delay in the nomination of a DCE for the district, and expressed “surprise and shock that the district where the late President J.E. A. Mills hails from could not get it share of the national cake.”
Mr. Engo said the District was endowed with capable men and women who could administer it, and that they did not understand what was holding back the nomination. – GNA
