Ejisu Gov Hospital In Dire Need Of Facilities

The Government Hospital at Ejisu in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti Region is in dire need of infrastructure to operate as a district hospital.

The Administrator of the Hospital, Mr. Benyamin Kusi Adabblah, revealed that the facility, which was established in 1972, has not known any major rehabilitation works until the year 2009, when the current management team, under the leadership of the Administrator and Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Osei-Wusu, took it upon themselves to expand the facility to its current state with internally generated funds, but said more needed to be done to attain the status of a district hospital.

According to Mr. Adabblah, the initial six bed capacity Maternity Unit had now expanded to a 20-bed unit, which has been augmented with an additional 20-bed by MTN.

He said the big challenges the hospital was facing now was accommodation for staff, since about 80% of them live outside the hospital premises because of lack of accommodation at Ejisu, where rent is high, leading to a situation which has compelled most of the staff to report to work late at the expense of emergency cases.

The Administrator disclosed that due to lack of wards and space, the Dental unit, ENT unit and psychiatric units were all operating in one room without any privacy in health care delivery, and called for support to put up separate units for special health care.

He added that the facility may also need an emergency unit because of its location on the Kumasi-Accra highway to attend to accident victims.

The Administrator further lamented about the lack of an administration block, as a result of which the management has been compelled to use part of the Out Patient Department (OPD) unit for administrative work, making the place congested at all times.

Mr. Adabblah has, therefore, made a passionate appeal to the government, through the Ministry of Health, philanthropists, and corporate organisations to come to the aid of the facility, to enable the management and staff render quality health care to the people.
