The final witness provided by the defense counsel in the case involving the Founder and General Overseer of Jesus Blood Prophetic Ministry International, Kofi Yirenkyi, a.k.a Jesus One Touch, who is standing trial for allegedly defiling his daughter, yesterday disclosed that it was one Efo, who inserted his finger into the victim’s vagina, and not the accused person.
The witness, Detective Inspector Mohammed Ali Bala, who is from the Akropong Police Station, in giving evidence to the court, noted that the complainant came to the DOVVSU in Akropong to lodge a complaint that the victim’s father has been having sex with the victim for the past two years.
He said, with this complaints, he came to Accra with the complainant to arrest the accused person, but he was nowhere to be found.
According to him, the accused person later turned up at the police station with his wife and wrote a statement to deny the allegation leveled against him. Witness said he later took the suspect to the office of the Divisional Commander, Mrs. Mina Ayim.
He mentioned that at the office of the divisional commander, the complainant emphatically stressed that the victim told her the accused person has been having sexual intercourse with her. But in the course of the interrogation, the complainant again disclosed that the victim had confessed it was one Efo, who used to live with them had been inserting his finger into her vagina.
The witness pointed out that upon this remark by the complainant, the Divisional Commander became very angry at the complainant, to the extent of banging on her desk, with the explanation that the complainant did not mention that in her statement to the police.
During cross examination, the Prosecutor, Madam Helen Kwoakumi, accused the witness of been subpoenaed to bear false witness in the case, but the latter denied the case. Witness noted that he has been in the police service for the past 20 years, and also an investigator and a prosecutor as well. He said that he has not been bribed in any way to give false evidence, but only wants justice to prevail at the end of the trial.
The Prosecutor went ahead to prove that the witness has been bought, by reminding him about the phone call he made to him about the case, but witness denied that the prosecutor ever called him. He demanded that the service provider of his cell phone be invited to prove the allegation being leveled against him by the prosecutor.
The counsel for the accused was not happy that the prosecutor called the witness, contending that it was unethical for her to have done that. The case was, therefore, adjourned to December 14, 2010, as the prosecutor said she needed time to study the dairy, in order to interrogate the witness properly.
Kofi Yirenkyi is standing trial on two counts of defilement and incest, and had pleaded not guilty to all the charges leveled against him before the court, presided over by Mrs. Georgina Mensah-Datsa. He is currently in police custody.
The facts of the case are that the victim, who was born out of wedlock, lived with complainant, Madam Bernice Owiredu Asmaa until 2005, when she left to live with the accused person at McCarthy Hill in Accra, to attend school.
According to the prosecution, between 2008 and 2009, the accused started defiling the victim before every church service.
In November 2009, the accused granted the victim’s mother the opportunity to talk to her, because she was putting up a bad behavior, the Prosecutor told the court. According to the Prosecutor, it was during the interaction that the victim revealed her ordeal to the complainant, who reported the case to the police, adding that the police gave her a form for medical check up. Nana Yirenkyi was later arrested and put before court.
