Effisco Marks 70th Milestone…With First Speech And Prize Giving Day

The Effiduase Senior High and Commercial School (EFFISCO) last Saturday observed the 70th Anniversary of the founding of the school by one Mr. E. R. Addow, alias Kwaku Mosi, on May 12, 1943, with the first ever Speech and Prize Giving Day.
The theme of the anniversary was: “The Role of old students in delivery of education.”
The school has a student population of 2,622, with 98 teaching staff, as well as 104 non -teaching staff.
Features of marked transformation in the school, following joint efforts of the school management and the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) over a period of three years, are 9-unit flats for teachers, two 6-unit classroom blocks for the students, a 16-unit water closet, and additional three polytanks for storage purposes; three deep freezers for the school kitchen, and five boreholes, two of which are mechanised.
The management and PTA have procured a heavy capacity standby generator for the school, and provided a 50-capacity ICT Centre with Internet connectivity. A students’ canteen is under construction, while a magnificent board room with an office for both the Board Chairman and Chairman of the Old Students Association, has been completed and commissioned.
A 6-flat teachers bungalow, which was estimated to cost GH¢55,000, which was abandoned had been completed, while a one storey Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) girls’ dormitory project, initiated by former Member of Parliament (MP), Mrs. Grace Coleman, in 2002, has also been revived by the school management and PTA to help absorb the growing female population of the students.
These provisions have added to the unprecedented growth of the school, after the government had provided boys and girls dormitories, a dining hall, assembly hall and library under the model school concept.
Last Saturday, Master Emmanuel Gyimah emerged the overall best student of the school, while Charity Bimponmaa was pronounced best Female Student, with Mrs. Lydia Sarpong being adjudged the Best Teacher.
