Richard Atoklo, a 34 year old Juapong-based driver is the latest weekly winner in Airtel’s national consumer promotion, Deedew.

He becomes the latest winner after Airtel had presented its first monthly winner with a brand new Honda City saloon car. Mr. Atoklo joins a tall list of Airtel customers who have been winning various prizes ranging from Honda City saloon car, Samsung phones, Airtel modems and Arsenal jerseys.

Corporate Relations Manager of Airtel Ghana, Kwame Gyan, who made the presentation to Mr. Atoklo said “the elation in the voice of Richard when we called him thrilled us a lot, especially as it epitomized what Airtel Ghana is hoping for, that is, to excite our customers and help put some money into their pockets after the Christmas celebrations”.

Mr. Gyan reiterated that what Airtel seeks to do is to encourage its customers to continue using their voice, SMS, data and Airtel Money services and products. “When our customers keep using these services, they gain points which enhance their opportunity to win prizes”, he said.

Richard Atoklo was excited at the prize, saying, “I was very happy when I got the call. I was not expecting it but I have been using Airtel a lot and so even though I did not expect the call, I was not entirely surprised”. He said he will invest the money into a block-making factory he has set up which he runs in addition to being a driver.

Mr. Gyan noted that customers’ continuous usage on the network via voice calls, data, Airtel Money and various products help in positioning them for the ultimate prize. Mr. Gyan said for “Deedew, we have enlisted the services of renowned auditors, KPMG to further give credence to our already known posture of fairness and transparency”.

He explained that Airtel selects winners whose regular usage on the network gets them points. Winners are determined via the accumulation of points.

“If non-Airtel customers want to take part, all they need to do is simply buy Airtel SIM cards and activate to earn points. Customers can also earn points by recharging with either scratch cards or through Airtel Money /Pre-Tups to earn points. Points are accumulated via daily usage – Voice, Data, SMS, Airtel Money Transactions”, he said.

Mr. Gyan added that customers can multiply their daily points by 5 when they meet their daily Obolobo 5X target. Airtel’s Deedew promotion has so far seen about 200 people winning various prizes. The promotion runs into March 2013.
