Driver And Mason Sentenced 12mths Over Narcotics

A fisherman and a mason have been sentence to a total of 24 months imprisonment in hard labour by an Accra circuit court for involving themselves into narcotic related crime.

The convicts, Kotey Neequaye, 39 and Emmanuel Quaynor, 55, were arrested while in active committal of the crime as the former was using the Indian hemp, while latter was in the process of supplying the drug to other people.

They pleaded guilty to the charges of using narcotic drug without authority and supply of narcotic drugs, when they appeared before the court presided over by Mr. Francis Obiri.

The facts of the case are that on the May 9, 2012, the unit had information that Kotey Neequaye was dealing in narcotic drugs along the sea-shore of James –Town, a suburb of Accra.

The prosecutor, DSP Riendolf Agyemang told the court that the Personnel from the unit proceeded to the said location and raided the place, where Kotey Neequaye was met cutting some dried leaves suspected to be cannabis and was arrested.

He said Kotey Neequaye in his cautioned statement claimed the exhibit was given to him by Emmanuel Quaynor to process it for distribution.

According to him, Kotey Neequaye led the police to a wooden structure, where the said Emmanuel Quaynor lives but he was not met.

“On June 1, 2012, Kotey Neequaye re-appeared before the court, where he spotted Emmanuel Quaynor within the premises and pointed him out to the police as the person who gave him the drug to process for sale”, he told the court.
