A total of 138 candidates, including Albert Nana Asante, The Chronicle Correspondent in Obuasi, have filed their nominations with the Obuasi Office of the Electoral Commission (EC) to contest the forthcoming District Assembly elections scheduled for December 28, this year.

Mr. Francis Addai Boateng, Obuasi Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission, who disclosed this in an interview with the press in Obuasi, said out of the number, 17 were females, with 121 being males.

He added that Obuasi now had a total of 38 electoral areas due to the addition of eight new ones, and gave Pomposo-Asonkore as the electoral area with the highest candidates.

“Nine people are contesting for the Pomposo-Asonkore seat, and that should tell you how people have shown interest in the district assembly elections,” he stressed.

The Obuasi Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission disclosed that a total of 342 candidates, comprising of 50 females and 292 males had also filed for the Unit Committee elections.

Mr. Boateng added that the mounting of platforms by aspiring candidates for the district assembly elections would start on December 16, and end on December 24, but was quick to add, “Apart from the usual platforms created by the EC, individual candidates would also be allowed to mount their own platforms.”

He entreated the public to have an interest and participate in the District Assembly elections, since it was the foundation for the development of the country.
