Boateng chairs CIPS Africa Strategic Advisory Board

THE CHARTERED Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), the world’s largest professional body, representing the procurement and supply chain management profession, has appointed Dr. Douglas Boateng, a South Africa based Ghanaian, as chairman of its Africa Strategic Advisory Board.
He would manage the sub-Saharan Africa operations from his South Africa base following the adoption of one Africa strategy by CIPS.
Mr. Andre Coetzee, CIPS Africa Managing Director in a statement issued on May 25, 2012 said “We are happy to have Douglas (Dr. Boateng) assume the role of Chairman of the Strategic Advisory Board.”
The CIPS Africa MD expressed the hope that Dr. Boateng’s appointment shall further provide strategic leadership, regional penetration, operating ethics and integrity in the face of rapid growth and evolvement on the continent.
Dr. Boateng saw his election as the chairman of CIPS Africa operations saying CIPS has proven to be one of the most ethically driven and fastest rising value adding professional organizations in the world.
He promised to work closely with the regional Managing Director and each member of the Advisory Board to build a successful body that will help drive the procurement and supply chain management professional development agenda in support of the United Nation’s Millennium Development goals.
In October, 2010, Dr. Douglas Boateng was elected a Fellow of the United Kingdom’s Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) for his continued contribution to amongst others, the global supply chain management and procurement fraternity.
A fellowship is the highest honour bestowed on a select number of professionals. The fellowship recognises specialist knowledge, ethics, thought leadership, directorial and management development, decision-making capabilities and contributions to industry, government and academia.
This singular achievement brought to six the total number of his concurrently held fellowships with the world’s thought leading and foremost professional bodies.
Dr. Boateng is also a fellow of two South African bodies, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, and the Institute of Directors Southern Africa.
To date Dr. Boateng is still the only known supply chain strategy authority in the world to be concurrently conferred with elected fellowships by the foremost global organisations associated with uplifting standards in corporate leadership and governance, supply chain management practice and education.
Dr. Boateng’s roll of fellowship honours includes Institute of Directors, United Kingdom; Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, United Kingdom; Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, United Kingdom; the Chartered Management Institute, United Kingdom; Institute of Operations Management, United Kingdom and Institute of Business Consulting, United Kingdom.
Dr. Boateng, who holds a Master of Science degree and a Doctorate in Engineering is the President and CEO of PanAvest International, a company he founded.
He acknowledges that he is a firm believer in the power of education and applied knowledge to achieve competitive advantage in supply chain, logistics and procurement management.
He also believes that these functions are where the modern business can and will distinguish itself from its competitors.
