Bekoe’s Kotoko move falls through

Eric Bekoe’s proposed move to Asante Kotoko has hit a sticking point, Ghanasoccernet.com has reported.
The 25-year-old underwent a successful medical at the club last month but contractual disagreements have stalled the move.

Kotoko’s acting Executive Chairman Jerry Asare has revealed both parties could not agree on the player’s personal terms.

“I have received an email from his representative saying something different from what was agreed,” Asare told Kumasi- based Fox FM.

“We all sat down and agreed on the terms. Before both parties left the negotiation table we all had an understanding with all the figures clearly spelt out.

“And that is why he joined the team at their pre-season camping base. It was later that I heard that his representative had changed certain things in the contract.

“He still has some problems and so we may have to go back and see how it goes. Everything was made clear and based on that there was an agreement.

“I am surprised at the sudden u-turn of the other party demanding this and that. We have made it clear on what we can offer. It is difficult at the moment. I am studying the mail and will call Eric and talk to him.”

The former Heart of Lions and Liberty Professionals man has since been told to stay away from the club’s pre-season activites until the matter is resolved.

“We had an agreement with Eric Bekoe that both parties consented to. But his agent came back demanding re-negotiation,” Kotoko’s Public and Supporters Relations Manager, Listowell Yesu Bukarson told Accra-based Oman FM

“We were therefore faced with two options. Either to stick with the original negotiations or asked him to step aside.

“We opted for the latter and so the the situation with him is that he has been asked to stay away from the club until a final decision is taken.

“If we don’t have an agreement with him, there is no point for him to be in camp.

“I wish I could tell our fans the details of the contract in the spirit of transparency but there is an issue of confidentiality which must be protected.

“If I tell you the details, it will be like putting the cart before the horse. Because the club’s Executive Board chairman Dr KK Sarpong is in the process of releasing the full details of the club’s financial reports and all the matter will be laid to rest.”
