… In England 2018 Global Fund Film
David Beckham leads a host of football stars in a new film released yesterday to showcase England 2018’s proposals for a new global fund for football.
FIFA President Sepp Blatter has praised the scheme, highlighting the “legacy it would have for the world.”
The ‘Football United’ proposals, headed by the England 2018 bidding team, are a set of proposals which aim to provide funding to grassroots football across all 208 of FIFA’s associate members.
During the film, bid Vice-President Beckham asks the football world to “imagine the kind of change we could create together” as a result of the “Football United” fund concept.
Beckham is joined in the video by a number of household football stars including England captains Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerrard, Ghana stars Michael Essien and Asamoah Gyan, Honduran midfielder Wilson Palacios, Brazilian defender, Alex; Spain striker Fernando Torres and Portugal midfielder Nani.
The film cuts between grassroots football and coaching sessions focused in Asia, Africa and the Caribbean, the type of which “Football United” would fund, to match footage from Premier League games.
The aim of using such stars from the Premier League is to show that the English Premier League and England itself is the country of choice for the best players in the world.
