The Accra Lawn Tennis Club comes alive next month for this year’s Accra Senior Open Tennis Championship from December 2-11.
The Coordinator of the annual event, Mr. Peter Annan, told The Chronicle Sports in an interview that the participants would compete in seven major events, with three as side attractions.
The participants would battle for honours in events like the ladies and men singles for players above 35 years; men’s singles for 45 years and above; men’s singles for 55 years and above; men’s doubles for participants between 50-60 years; super doubles for 65 years and above, and mixed doubles.
It will be the eighth edition, and will have Nii Ashitey Armah, Greater Accra Regional Minister as the Special Guest of Honour.
The side attraction events include men’s doubles, ladies singles, and men’s singles, all for players between the ages of 15 and 30 years.
Under the auspices of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), the Ghana Tennis Association (GTA), and the Accra Lawn Tennis Club, Mr. Annan (Grand Master) said the competition would bring together some of the talented players in the country.
According to Mr. Annan, the inclusion of the games, under side attraction, was to create a platform for the youngsters to also play, as a result of the lack of competition on the local scene.
