Adaklu-Dzakpo Teachers Commend Madamfo Ghana …For Providing School With New Infrastructure

 

Teachers of the Adaklu-Dzakpo L.A Primary School have commended a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Madamfo Ghana, for providing the school with modern infrastructure.

According to the teachers, the existing school infrastructure provided by the community many years ago were all in a deplorable state, as the classrooms were not enough to accommodate the pupils, resulting in some classes being held under trees.

Speaking to the Volta File in an exclusive interview at Adaklu-Dzakpo, a class-five teacher of the school, Mr. Samuel Madugu, said teachers in the school had shown much commitment to duty over the years, and that they could have left the school in view of the numerous challenges confronting them.

Mr. Madugu disclosed that one of the most worrying factors in the execution of their duties was that they had to share classrooms under trees with animals like goats and sheep, which most of the time distracted the pupils during classes, but as teachers, they believed that if they left the school, then the education of the children would be disrupted.

Another issue Mr. Madugu lamented was that the lives of both teachers and pupils were in danger, because at times, when classes were in progress, snakes strayed into the classrooms, thereby disrupting lessons, and stressed the need for the government to complement the efforts of the NGO, by helping to provide more classrooms and other facilities for the school.

Another teacher, Mr. Emmanuel Wugah, a Kindergarten 2 (KG2) teacher, said as a result of lack of classrooms, the community decided to accommodate the children in the EP Church chapel, but the school authorities had decided to hold classes for them under trees because of excessive heat in the chapel.

He said classes were normally organised in the chapel anytime the rain threatened, and that with the approach of the rainy season, educational activities would be disrupted, with serious effects on the academic calendar of the school.

The Country Director of Madamfo Ghana, Mr. Emmanuel Kumadey, said his outfit supports the communities in various forms, ranging from education to the provision of social amenities, and that during one of his visits to the Adaklu-Dzakpo community, he noticed the poor infrastructure problem confronting the school.

Mr. Kumadey said consequently, Madamfo Ghana decided to build a modern three-unit classroom block for the KG, and another four-unit classroom block with an office to address the problem.

The Country Director of Madamfo Ghana said that the KG building had been roofed, and that of the other four unit classroom block was about to be done, but that the teachers were desirous of occupying the uncompleted buildings due to the difficulties facing them.

Mr. Kumadey said his outfit had also identified lack of accommodation for teachers in the community as one factor that would not make teaching comfortable for them, as well as the bad road network to the community, resulting in almost all the teachers living outside the community.
