An accountant has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly stealing from the accounts of his employer, Dhillon Farms International Limited.
The accused person, Kofi Mensah, is facing a charge of stealing contrary to section 124(1) of act 29/60.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge leveled against him and has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢200,000.00 by the court, presided over by Mr. Seyram Azumah. He is expected to reappear before court on the April 9, 2013.
The facts, according to the Prosecuting Officer, ASP Nsoh are that the complainant, Rose Asantewaa Koranteng, the Executive Director of Dhillon Farms International Limited at Nsawam in the Eastern Region, noted that in August, 2012, she issued SSB Bank Cheque with face value of Gh¢10,000.00 to the accused person to redraw the said amount from the company’s account at Kokomlemle Branch in Accra to transact business.
The bank informed the accused person that the company had inadequate funds in the account to withdraw such amount. The complainant who became suspicious, therefore, requested for the company’s statement of accounts which was issued to her, the prosecution told the court.
ASP Nsoh said on careful examination, it was detected that an amount of GH¢830,000.00 had been withdrawn from the company’s account. The complainant highly suspected the accused person and, therefore, confronted him.
The accused person then confessed having withdrawn the said amount from the company’s account but could not make a proper account for its use.
The complainant became alarmed and requested for an auditing. On November 22, 2012, an audit was conducted with the consent of the accused person on the company’s account and was detected that an amount of GH¢614,456.00 was withdrawn from the company’s account from March 17, 2011 to September 15, 2012.
A report was made to the Police and the accused person was arrested. In his caution statement, the accused person admitted having withdrawn GH¢100.000.00 and not GH¢614,456.00 as alleged.
Further investigation revealed that the accused person used the money to build School Complex at Millennium City at Kosoa in the Central Region.
